The Onboarding Flow

The Onboarding Flow

Onboarding is a 12-step guided setup that takes about five minutes. Every setting you choose here can be changed later.

After signing in, Rubric walks you through a sequence of screens that configure your profile, targets, and permissions. The progress bar at the top tracks your position through all 12 steps.

Screen-by-Screen Overview

StepScreenWhat You Do
1NameEnter the name you want the system to use.
2GoalSelect your primary objective: lose fat, build muscle, maintain, or recomposition.
3Body MetricsProvide your height, weight, birth year, and biological sex. These are used to calculate your baseline calorie target.
4Activity & ExerciseSet your general activity level (sedentary through very active) and select your exercise preferences. Activity level directly affects your daily calorie target.
5Dietary PreferencesChoose your dietary base (omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, etc.) and flag any religious dietary requirements (kosher, halal).
6Fuel StrategySelect your preferred macro approach for how calories are distributed across protein, carbs, and fat.
7Coaching & StyleSet your coaching intensity, hunger tolerance, and complexity preferences. These shape how the Coach communicates with you.
8AllergiesSelect any food allergies or intolerances.
9Analytics ConsentChoose whether to share anonymized usage analytics. No health data is ever included in analytics.
10Target RevealReview your calculated daily calorie and macro targets based on everything you entered.
11PermissionsGrant system permissions including Apple Health access and notifications.
12Legal AcceptanceReview and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

The Allergies Screen Is Safety-Critical

Step 8 deserves special attention. Your allergy selections directly control the Iron Dome safety system — a deterministic filter that scans every AI-generated response before you see it. If you are allergic to peanuts, Iron Dome will flag any meal suggestion, recipe, or coaching response that contains peanut-derived ingredients, including hidden sources.

Do not skip this step. Do not rush through it. If your allergies change, update them immediately in your Profile — the safety system updates in real time.

The Activity Level Screen Affects Your Targets

The activity level you select at Step 4 is a direct input to your calorie target calculation. Choosing “sedentary” versus “very active” can shift your daily target by hundreds of calories. Be honest with this selection — you can adjust it later if your routine changes.

Everything Is Editable

Every setting from onboarding can be modified after the fact. Your Profile screen contains all of these fields, organized by category.
